In the News: Longview Council takes $300,000 step toward new water system

It was one small step toward a new water system and one giant leap from the Mint Farm wells Thursday night.

The Longview City Council voted 6-1 to approve a $300,000 feasibility study on Ranney wells in the Cowlitz River.

“The idea here is to ... look to see if there is any water for a Ranney system, where it would be and what the quality would be,” Mayor Don Jensen said. “Until we get those answers, we won’t know anything.”

The move comes after a citizen water committee recommended the riverbed wells after narrowing a list of 56 options to give Longview what it called at its first meeting “award-winning water.”
