Customer Advisory Committee (CAC)

In 2014, the Longview City Council and Beacon Hill Water & Sewer District formed a Customer Advisory Committee (CAC) to learn about the Longview water supply system, consider options to improve drinking water quality, and make a recommendation to the City Council and Beacon Hill Water & Sewer District Board of Commissioners.

The committee was composed of 14 water customers served by Longview or Beacon Hill Water & Sewer District with multiple interests and backgrounds, including residents from various neighborhoods, business owners, healthcare providers, and environmental or engineering professionals, all to represent the community at large. There is also one liaison representative from each the Longview City Council and the Beacon Hill Water & Sewer District Board.

Role of the Customer Advisory Committee

The goal of the Customer Advisory Committee was to provide a recommendation for a sustainable, safe and satisfactory water supply for Longview/BHWSD water customers.

To do this, the CAC:

  • Created an environment conducive to voicing multiple and diverse opinions and ideas.
  • Reviewed and commented on technical data and materials prepared by staff and consultants.
  • Discussed community concerns and balanced interests in order to establish evaluation criteria that helped to narrow possible solutions to improving Longview’s water supply.
  • Ensured the recommended alternative for improving Longview’s Water Supply was consistent with and supportive of the project purpose and need, as well as the evaluation criteria established by the CAC, with input from the community.
  • Promoted public understanding of the Longview Drinking Water Improvement Alternatives.
